The National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts (NTMoFa) invited the SEADS collective to create a new Biomodd installation for the exhibition ‘Regeneration Movement’ that opened in March 2016. NTMoFA was established in 1988, and is the first and only national fine arts museum in Taiwan. It’s major collections are works by Taiwanese artists, covering modern and contemporary Taiwanese arts. The museum covers 102,000 square meters, including the Public Outdoor Sculpture park, which makes it one of the largest museum in Asia. NTMoFa is located in Taichung, and attracts more than 1 million visitors each year. Biomodd [TAI8] was built by the largest co-creating team to date, consisting of over 100 creative minds over the course of 3 weeks. Facilitation was done by Taiwanese artists Chi-Ping Mary Chin and Mao Wu, and Angelo Vermeulen. Talented museum staff provided additional assistance and support over the four-week development and installation process. This Biomodd version shows an evolution in architecture and shape that differs from the project's earlier installments. One significant difference is that the Biomodd [TAI8] had one of the most sophisticated plant ecosystems so far. For the plant ecosystem, local potted plants were used and integrated into the Biomodd. Unique to [TAI8] is a large-scale window farm that was visible from the outside of the museum. This edition of Biomodd included floor based gaming terminals, complete with a network of locally developed computer games.
