Seeker [ES5] video

Seeker [ES5] was built during GOGBOT 2014, an annual festival of art, technology and music, that has been organized in Enschede since 2004. A regional team of about 30 artists, designers, architects, biologists, mechanical engineers, game designers, software developers worked on this Seeker. In the architectural approach for Seeker [ES5] the Seeker [EH3] project from MADlab was used as a departure point. The goal was to expand this structure vertically using ‘prefabricated’ units such as caravans (and containers). Seeker’s multiple caravans can be connected in different orientations, inspired by diverse sources such as existing space station concepts, Luc Deleu’s container art, and the Metabolists. The highlight of the project was an isolation experiment during GOGBOT. Seeker [ES5] housed a team that stayed in a closed environment that provided its own energy, water and food. Communication and Monitoring from the inside out was established by cameras, body-sensoring, Virtual Reality and other experimental video. Every day an Extra-Vehicular-Activity took place.

Seeker

Seeker is a worldwide series of co-created starship sculptures that evolve over time. In this community art project participants are invited to fundamentally rethink the future of human habitation and survival. Participants build self-sustainable systems simulating interstellar exploration using the methodology of co-creation. This is achieved by radically interconnecting technology, ecology and people, while at the same time tapping into local traditions

Angelo Vermeulen

Angelo is a space systems researcher, biologist, and community artist. With his multidisciplinary background, he collaborates closely with practicing scientists, while also creating multimedia art installations, and building communities through design and co-creation. In 2013 he was crew commander of the NASA-funded HI-SEAS Mars simulation in Hawaii. Currently he is doing research on interstellar travel at Delft University of Technology. He has lived in many corners of the world, is a TED Senior Fellow, and loves computer games.
