Cosmic Caresse

The Future of Intimacy in Space

Let's start with a fictional introduction for a talk show on Radio Free FM in Ulm:

Returning to the Moon and then ahead to Mars is anything but easy. In addition to countless technical issues, the human factor is crucial in managing air, water, food, and waste. The type of clothing is also vital because there are no washing machines for sweaty clothes on the way to Mars.

And don't forget that the journey takes about two years - four or five men and women together in a small space with no chance of privacy.

The negative effects of radiation and weightlessness on the body must also be considered for a successful mission.

However, experts stubbornly avoid discussing a human need: sexuality. Although there is speculation about it, it has never been seriously addressed.

Simon Dubé, a Canadian scientist, and other researchers founded the field of space sexology. They discuss various topics, including pregnancy, bodily fluids, sexual interaction, and weightlessness. These are all relevant and important, especially in the long term.

But how about a Mars mission? You don't have to think about sex right away - there's probably no space for that, let alone privacy. Sex machines and masturbation are also problematic due to the lack of privacy.

How about a Pleasure Space Suit that you can wear like everyday clothing? It sounds fascinating—a pleasure spacesuit. There is no such thing yet.

Not yet!

A person who grew up nearby is already working on developing and manufacturing such a Pleasure Space Suit.

Today's guest on our platform is Cassiopeia, the space girl from the Swabian Alb.

Hello Cassiopeia!

This briefly describes the purpose of such a Pleasure Space Suit. It is primarily about sexual relaxation during long space missions in confined spaces.

During the program, listeners will learn more about Cassiopeia’s project “Cosmic Caresse—The Future of Intimacy in Space” and why the French word “Caresse” is used instead of the English “Caress.”

Thoughts on Sexual Relaxation

Sexual relaxation does not primarily focus on orgasm. It's more about touching, mainly when an erotic massage is carried out sensitively and slowly by a loved one. The effect can be enhanced through the use of music and scents. In this context, the practice of “orgasmic meditation” should be highlighted. If you rely on yourself, vibrators can serve as a partial replacement.

Given the limited space and need for some privacy, a Pleasure Space Suit equipped with vibrotactile stimulators can provide sexual relaxation during long space missions.

Structure

The Pleasure Space Suit integrates a series of pads with multiple vibrators for different erogenous zones. It has been proven that vibrotactile stimulation, not limited to the genital area but also includes regions such as the chest and waist, is significantly more effective and relaxing. The vibrators can be self-activated, controlled by a program, or by external signals such as music or another person. It should be noted that there are numerous, sometimes unusual, options. For example, vibrators in the genital and breast areas can be operated at slightly different frequencies, creating a kind of mechanical resonance in the upper body.

Applications

If the suit contains active elements as well as internal and external sensors and the control unit has access to various data, additional applications arise beyond sexual relaxation:

  • Sexual research through the integration of body sensors
  • Biofeedback
  • Multimodal stimulation via music and scent
  • Sensory experience of the environment and cosmic phenomena
  • Gaming
  • Sexual education
  • Long-distance relationships
  • Art and performance through interactive sonification
  • Fashion as a sensual expression of personality.

Experiments and Current Progress

Physical factors:

Both men and women have numerous erogenous zones, and simultaneous stimulation leads to a significant increase in sexual arousal compared to purely genital stimulation. In contrast to many sex toys that are designed for high-speed, targeted stimulation, large-area vibrations at low speed are perceived as more pleasant and relaxing. This is more in line with the concept of erogenous zones than spots. Sweat and other body fluids also pose a crucial challenge.

Materials:

When it comes to sex suits and the associated tactile stimulation, many people think of rubber or plastic. These materials are unsuitable for space missions because they can cause significant sweating even when inactive. Skin-tight latex catsuits are challenging to put on and take off. Textiles that should be worn like everyday clothing are recommended for the Pleasure Space Suit. Experiments show that polyester absorbs sweat better than cotton. Honeycomb structures used in sports suits are suitable for long-lasting skin stimulation.

Wearing two such suits together creates a pleasant feeling of pressure, and unlike a latex suit, they are easy to put on and take off.

Vibrators:

Small bullet vibrators are used. Up to six are embedded in padded sections between the suit layers to suit individual erogenous zone preferences.

The prototype includes pads with vibrators for the genital, anal, breast, and inner thigh areas, held in place by elastic straps between the suit layers.

Controller:

The prototype uses an Arduino-compatible Adafruit Feather WiFi microcontroller. The vibrators are connected to multiple combinable Adafruit Feather Wing motor drivers, with up to four vibrators per driver.

The Adafruit Feather Wi-Fi board receives signals from the motor drivers, and a small display shows the transmission quality. The display has buttons for connecting to an app called Touch OSC. The Feather board processes OSC (Open Sound Control) signals to control the motor drivers.

Evaluation:

Biosensors for ECG, skin conductivity, and pelvic floor muscle tension are used to assess sexual arousal and orgasm. Extended playful stimulation is perceived as very pleasant and leads to powerful orgasms, followed by deep relaxation. And even without an orgasm, wearing the suit is associated with pleasant sensations.

In the role of Hatsune Miku, a teenage virtual Japanese popstar, he was an essential part of the international performance Still Be Here.In 2013, he joined the smart fashion community. Since 2014, he has been an experimental musician. In 2016 and 2017, he won awards at Fashion Hack Day Berlin.

2018, he created a novel sensor with sex researcher Dr Nicole Prause. This sensor became the key component of a system for the sonification of sexual arousal and was presented at the 4th International Congress on Love and Sex with Robots. The PLAY ME system was also presented at the 4th interdisciplinary conference Taboo – Transgression – Transcendence and at the 1st Experimance Festival Saarbrucken. At the 7th International Congress on Love and Sex with Robots, he presented his first thoughts about a Pleasure Spacesuit Prototype. Parts of this work and PLAY ME were included in a Convergence Seminar 2023 Antwerpen presentation. During an art show at the Interdisciplinary Conference Taboo – Transgression – Transcendence in Art & Science 2023 in Malta, he presented the narrative audio Cosmic Caresse, which is based on his current fashion and research project, A Multisensory Pleasure Suit for Space Sexology and Earthly Delights.
